In 2000, University of California at Davis performed a case study on conversion from string mops to microfiber, claiming bacteria cultures showed 30% reduction using a string mop versus 99% reduction using a microfiber mop. I've been unable to locate any confirming or follow-up study. The article seems to have disappeared from the the UC Davis site, but still appears on the EPA site. More recently, in 2007, Rubbermaid commissioned a test of microfiber mops and of microfiber wipes, with similar results. Again, I've been unable to locate any follow-up or confirmation Can anyone enlighten me?
