The Great American Soap Overdose

Pertinent article in today's (1/27/2010) Wall Street Journal (p.D1) on America's overuse of laundry IMGP0729_edited detergent; by one reckoning, 53% of American consumers either guess, or fill the measuring cup up to the top.  Result: dingy clothing, wasted product, color fading, detergent build-up in the machine leading to odor and bacteria growth, etc.

Similarly, lots of folks in our industry still use the "glug-glug" method.  Besides training (usually a good idea) there are alternatives: most of the JohnsonDiversey  products, for instance, we use come in various types of dilution control containers.  Still possible to screw up, but at least one has to work at it.

Better than saving a few cents (theoretically) by buying the off-brand stuff, and then wasting it.
